Indian driving licence conversion to Hungarian
To convert the Indian DL to Hungarian DL, There are two ways.
1) If you have the Indian DL and a valid (white/grey booklet) IDP-International Driving Permit.
2) If you only have just the Indian DL.
Documents Required
1) Passport
2) PR/RP
3) Hungarian translation of the Indian driving licence by OFFI.
5) Address Card
4) IDP if you have.
5) Fitness certificate from any GP Dr, For this you have to pay as this service is not free and not covered even by the TAJ card.
6) Passport size photos
To take appointment for the DL conversion.

Indian DL along with the IDP
If you have the Valid IDP and the Indian DL.
1) Make official translation of your driving licence to Hungarian from OFFI.
2) Take fitness certificate from Dr.
3)Take appointment from kormanyahivatal 1818 is the number.
4) Go there with all the required documents and get you will be asked to fill the forms and pay the licence conversion fees and they will give you the decision.
5) In this case they will take away your indian DL and you will get Hungarian one by post in 2 weeks time frame.
Indian DL only
1) Make official translation of your driving licence to Hungarian from OFFI.
2) Take fitness certificate from Dr.
3)Take appointment from kormanyahivatal 1818 is the number.
4) Go there with all the required documents and get the decision.
5) When you have the decision go to any driving school and give exams.
6) After the exams if you pass all of them, you can go to your nearest kormanyablak and get the temporary paper with the decision to drive, they will ask you to submit your Indian DL.
7) Your new Hungarian DL will arrive by post within 2 weeks.

Indian IDP- International Driving Permit
To get the IDP first time you need to apply in India, in your local RTO. To renew the IDP you can do from the Indian embassy in Budapest.

International Driving Permit will be issued to an applicant who holds a valid Indian Licence and who is a resident of India. The application shall be made in Form 4A or in writing to the RTO within whose jurisdiction the applicant resides, specifying the countries to be visited and the duration of stay etc.

Valid driving Licence held by the applicant and copies thereon.
Copies of Passport, Visa ( where applicable) and Air ticket for verification.
Fees as prescribed along with user charges.

Re-issue of International Driving Permit

International Driving Permit (IDP) helps the Indian nationals to drive vehicle which is allowed to drive as per Indian Driving License, in foreign country which are the signatory of Geneva Convention on Road Traffic, 1949. Indian national residing abroad can now apply for re-issue of International Driving Permit (IDP) at the Embassy. The procedure to be followed is as below:
• The applicant has to visit Embassy, after taking prior appointment, and must bring along one recent photograph, original and color photocopies of passport, residence permit, address card, expired IDP and valid Indian Driving Licence.
• A receipt will be issued by the Embassy after accepting the application. The fee for the service will be HUF 4500/-.
• Thereafter, the applicant has to apply for fresh issue of IDP through the portal www.parivahan.gov.in uploading the documents including the receipt issued by the Embassy.
• On verifying the online application, the licensing authority in India will issue new IDP and will send by courier directly to the applicant’s address.

Note: Additional fee of HUF 800/- is applicable with every consular application for ICWF
New IDP Format
The New IDP-International Driving permit format has been standardized by the Indian central govt. The new law has been passed, now its up to the individual Indian state govt to Implement the new rule/law in their own states. Now, through this amendment in the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989, the format, size, colour etc. for IDP has been standardised for issuance across India, and in adherence to the Geneva Convention.
